The recent viral news about a teacher (ibu guru) involved in a scandal in a hotel has sparked intense debate and discussion in Indonesia. This paper aims to explore the impact of viral scandals on teacher professionalism in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, this study examines the existing literature on teacher professionalism, viral scandals, and their implications on the education sector.
Teacher professionalism is a critical aspect of the education sector. It encompasses a range of characteristics, including expertise, ethics, and a commitment to student learning (Berry, 2000). In Indonesia, teachers are expected to adhere to a code of ethics that emphasizes their role as educators, mentors, and role models (Depdiknas, 2004).
